3D Printing

I caved and bought a Bambu P1S on sale. Now I'm a 3D printer guy.

Unpack and setup was simple. I had it printing out the scraper handle design within about an hour, which mostly went smoothly.

I say mostly because the roll of green PLA included with the printer seemingly had a couple of knots in it, but luckily I noticed fast enough that the print survived, despite some very starved layers.

Since then I've printed some other assorted junk, mostly in PLA. It's pretty much all come out nicely, including my own designs.

I've been using Onshape, partly because I am not immune to propaganda, and partly because having it run in the browser means I didn't need to think about Linux compatibility or Wine or anything.

Onshape has been pretty great so far, though I don't have any parametric modelling experience to speak of. The learning curve hasn't been terrible just poking around blindly, and I've made some usable designs.

My latest print is my first foray into PETG, and my most complex design. Naturally I continued to fuck things up, and so it's retroactively a prototype. But I'm happy with my material choice - I designed it as a snap fit with very little tolerance, and it definitely wouldn't have been able to flex enough in PLA.

That's the post, for now. I'll come back and add pictures at some point.
